What is Kinesiology?
"Kinesiology is the study of the dynamics of human movement and its components (anatomical, physiological, neurological, biochemical, biomechanical, neuromotor, psychological) in interaction with the environment.
In simpler terms, we can say that kinesiology is also defined as human kinetics, or the scientific study of human movement. The term comes from the Greek word kinesis, which means "to move."
Kinesiology consists of several fields of study that, in their own right, could each form an independent profession (e.g., physiologist, biomechanist, neurologist). In Canada, we have chosen to group together all the professions that focus on aspects of human locomotion."

In the pain rehabilitation process, there are many difference practitioner choices to choose from. Many clinics consist of Physiotherapists, Massage therapists (RMT), Chiropractic, Acupuncturists, Counselors and Kinesiologists.

What do Kinesiologists do?
How we differ is our approach to rehabilitation. Our focus is entirely on the active component of rehab (Active Rehabilitation, AR for short). All other facets focus on passive treatment with aspects of active treatment which may get you right to the finish line, but the active rehabilitation is what will keep you moving after the race.
As a Kinesiologist, we take a movement first approach and see where your body may be lacking and/or compensating which could be triggering your continued pain. We then address that by focused muscular activation, movement patterning and strengthening in key areas to not just reduce pain, but to keep it away. The active component may be accompanied by light soft tissue work as well to bolster the improvements to movement by reducing the restrictive musculature.
